Each year there are a few services that call for repeating certain elements. During seasons like Advent or Easter we look forward to singing old favorites and reading certain passages. Though it’s not one of the evangelical feast days, Reformation Sunday has become one of those times. Reading Psalm 46 and singing A Mighty Fortress Is Our God is something we look forward to.
Also, singing a congregational psalm, such as All People That On Earth Do Dwell (Psalm 100) reminds us that congregational psalm singing became common place because of the protestant reformation.
Finally, as we begin a new sermon series you will find an emphasis on Christ and the trinity today and in the coming weeks. This week in particular we will look at one aspect of trinitarian life – the love of the Father for the Son. I chose a passage from Christ’s high priestly prayer to help us prepare our hearts for worship. “Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.” —John 17:24
